SUNDOWNERS RV CLUB

Bryce Canyon & Red Rocks
                May 12-22, 2024

“Red Rocks &; Bryce Canyon” RV Trip. ( 9 nights on the road) This RV trip will be fun for Hikers, Photographers, Birders, Museum goers, and anyone who enjoys magnificent landscapes. We will use Rt. 89 and 89A to explore the area’s of National Parks and National Monuments. The trip is designed for Sundowners to explore areas by themselves or tag with other folks. There is much to see!

It takes 2 days to get to Bryce Canyon, so we will stay south of Flagstaff, first night. Second day we move north again to stay in Bryce Canyon City. Bryce Canyon can be explored by driving your vehicle, catching a free shuttle or hiking. There are nearby shops to explore in Old Bryce Town, which are set in “Old West” tradition. Also nearby is Cedar Breaks National Mon. A natural amphitheater which spreads for 3 miles. Kodachrome Basin about 20 minutes away is filled with natural wildlife (Golden Eagles, Condors, etc.) 67 towering sedimentary rock chimneys, all housed in a state park. Kodachrome is also noted for its light pollution free night skies for stargazing.

The next leg of the trip will spend some time in “Little Hollywood” Kanab, UT. There are great museums, art galleries, and eateries. You may want to stop on the way to visit the “Best Friends Animal Sanctuary” which welcomes human guests to tour. Best Friends is a no kill sanctuary
that houses 1700 animals of all kinds on over 3700 acres. Everything from horses, dogs and cats , goats and exotic birds make this place their home. At night in Kanab we have an opportunity to take in “S’Mores and Stars”, which is a campfire with storytellers, homemade marshmallows, and fun on an old filming set where The Lone Ranger was filmed.

A day trip might include a visit to The Pipe Spring National Monument. This is an early fort and settlement, used by American Indians and eventually other settlers. Take a tour of the Winsor Castle while you are there.

After a two night stay we take off and venture out on RT 89A on a slower meandering drive and viewing the Vermillion Cliffs. You will pass by a ghost town, and a small town of Jacob Lake which has a Visitor Center run by the US Forest Service, because it is the gateway to the North Rim of
the Grand Canyon. There is also a small cafe and bakery! We’ll continue our drive back to Flagstaff for our last night on the road.
